New News Site

I changed my news site, this one was hard to keep updated, I realized I was spending more time working on adding RSS feeds and styles and such than I was actually creating content, so I have moved to a web based news feed here, so please update your bookmarks. The rest of the site will remain exactly as is.

Nikon 35mm f/1.8 & RSS

I just ordered the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 lens. I really can't wait to get this one, especially since I have been doing a lot of shooting inside . I will have more on this when I get my hands on it.

I also added RSS to this page, although I don't know if I'm going to keep using it the way I have been, as I have to manually update the .xml file for it to show changes. I know there is an easier way, I'm just looking for it.

Off Camera Flash

So I promised some more shots that I made with the off camera stuff that I did last week. The great thing with off camera stuff is that it allows you to engineer the light to work for you instead of just making do with one source that the on camera stuff gets you. It can really do wonders when shooting people, as you can make the light look natural on them and kill the nasty background shadows that would otherwise be present.

Doesn't look like a flash was used? That's the idea! Flash was behind me on a stand, fired up at the ceiling at full power. 28mm f/4.2 1/60sec. Pictured: Daniel Hannah.

D40 battery & other news

I use a Nikon D40 for almost every one of the photos you see on this site.  I shot a tennis match today and got a little over 600 shots. Along with all these shots, I did plenty of viewing and showing some other people shots on the TFT screen. After uploading all of them to my computer, my battery meter still showed full.

Other pics and some general news will be up tomorrow night after the second day of the match is over and I have a chance to get my pictures into the paper.

NASCAR Race (Pep Boys Auto 500)

We went to the NASCAR race on Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, and it was loads of fun. I would highly recommend trying to get to a race of any kind if you have never been to one, they are really a blast to see in person.  The first thing that will strike you about any race is the sheer sound of the cars, they are indescribably loud, and NASCAR is defiantly no exception!  Although I seem to remember Formula 1 being louder, both will require you to have ear plugs. Here are some pictures I took at the event.  I used a point and shoot, there was no way I was going to lug an SLR all over the place.

I ended up with around 300 pictures of the race, most of them from putting the camera in continuous and shooting until I filled the buffer to capture the action as best as I could.  I used Lightroom to quickly sort and pick the best ones.

Off Camera Flash

Austin let me borrow his off camera flash gear (thanks again!). This stuff is fun to use. I'm going to use it for some work for my school newspaper tomorrow for an article.  For now, I have some pictures of Olive from when I was practicing.

Gray, GA

My friends Austin Cabot, Drake Simmons, and I went out to Gray today to shoot some photos and stumbled upon an old cement plant around sunset. We took some pretty cool photos, and Austin let me use his Tokina 12-24 (one of the most fun lenses I have used). Anyway, here are some of the pics.

Today my girlfriend and I went to Georgia governor Sonny Perdue's 6th Annual Fish Fry in Perry.  We got to see him speak along with some of the other candidates running in the upcoming primary.

New Site

This is my first update on this site, I just got it online about 3 days ago and am still getting used to building it, although Expression Web makes it quite a bit easier with the graphical interface. Speaking of Expression Web, any students using Windows can download the entire Expression Studio free with the Dreamspark program, which (I assume) is to get students using Microsoft products early, but free is free. Adobe also has an education pricing program to help students out, which is what I used to get Lightroom 2.

I will try to update this section regularly, so make sure to check back for updates as I finish building the site!
